PTO General Meeting Minutes

February 26, 2026

 

  1. Overview of open positions - will put together information to either send home a pamphlet and/or social media posts to get them filled.
    1. Co-treasurer 
    2. Staff Buffet
    3. Fall Festival - games
    4. Junior Achievement
    5. Special Events
    6. Teacher Appreciation
    7. Give Back Gathering
    8. Book Fair - to shadow Andrea in her final year
  2. Book Fair - April 6-10
    1. Finalizing hours it will be open
    2. Will be open in evening for 5th grade concert as well as during the day for the K concert
    3. Thinking of other options to allow parents in school to purchase since it’s not during parent teacher conferences
  3. Grant updates
    1. Received 7 applications 
    2. All were approved by Dr. Walz and PTO
      1. Nurse - to go bag/triage bag
      2. SSD - sensory swing/sensory mat/bean bag
      3. Mrs. Clar - money towards new printer - will collaborate with others as the purchase is more than our allotment provided
      4. 5th grade - supplies for construction project
      5. 1st grade - supplemental class for Zoo field trip
      6. K - 4 new play kitchens
    3. Well received by staff so as long as funds allow we will continue next year
  4. Outdoor blacktop painting - Pending outcome of Bingo night
    1. Should we raise enough from Bingo we will move forward with the project asap
    2. Will work to get additional/updated bids
    3. Will print off large posters to showcase at Bingo night
    4. Need to check on maintenance costs associated to maintain longevity of the paintings - ice, salt, snow, weather, etc
  5. City2 game - Sat May 9th 4PM - will get link out to purchase tickets asap and begin promoting
  6. Dine Outs -
    1. March 26 - Porano Italian Restaurant - Mrs. Swoboda’s SIL is the owner - will give 15% back
    2. April 14th - Culvers - will need student helpers
    3. May - Ballwin Sno Cone
  7. DEI - will update the board in the first week of March for Ramadan.
  8. Special Events -
    1. 1-2 more skate nights
    2. Chuck E Cheese
  9. Bingo Update
    1. Donations rolling in
    2. Working out payment system - once that’s finalized will begin promoting and sales
    3. Grade level baskets being worked on
  10. Parents Night Out was well received! Will book another early May.
  11. Bringing back teacher appreciation door decorations - more information to come.
  12. Dr. Walz update -
    1. Staff recognition 
      1. 9 rose aware nominees
      2. 8 teacher of the year nominees
      3. Mr. Griffin teacher of the year
    2. District is beginning to focus on staff & students feelings of dignity and belonging within the school
      1. Rolling out to staff first - started in January - how to be their best self when coming to work
      2. Continue to roll out to students through this semester
      3. Asking kids what makes their heart happy at school
      4. Instead of focusing on “don’t do this” but “do this instead”
      5. In fall there will be a school wide dignity & belonging promise.
